I can login as user1 but forgot the password for root.
Instead of using single user mode.
Login into Ubuntu and then in Terminal:
As uers1:
sudo su -
password :
root@host1:
Here now you are logged in as root change the password for root.
To login remotely into ubuntu PC from windows use TightVNC viewer
